Great picture while it lasted

Reviewer: James Mill,
The Tv had impressive picture for 7 months. It has been in the shop for over a month now. The part it needs is backorderd. Football season is starting and my Toshiba piece of crap is in the shop. Buy a Sony,Samsung or even a Visio. They have to be more reliable than Toshiba.
Great Picture & Options with mediocre audio

This is my first HDTV and glad with the purchase, also glad I waited all this time to get one (cheaper prices, more options). I got it in mid-March and no problems with it yet (knock on wood). Some reviews & people complain the blacks are not black enough, but I'm not an HD snob, so the picture looks great to me and the colors are bright and clear. Coming from a 36" standard TV I am very pleased with this, making the little 13" standard in my bedroom look old and needing to be replaced by a 22" HDTV. Watching sports (basketball only for now) looks good, no blurring or negative imagery - great detail and refresh rate works nicely. This has a lot of a lot of good options in the back: connected it to my stereo and at the same time plug in my computer to play movies from there. Really like that I can connect multiple audio/video/PC devices at the same time and easily switch from one to another.

My ONLY COMPLAINT so far - the internal speakers are pretty cheap and would sound 'tinny' or as if they were going to bust when the volume was turned up higher. To fix that I connected my stereo receiver and speakers and muted the TV audio - now it sounds great with stereo sound.

Delivery was also good; the two gentleman were friendly, connected it to make sure it worked properly then left - didn't take a long time.

:take care.
Not even 90 days and my TV's in the repair shop...

So I ordered this TV from Amazon on February 8th - it was delivered within a week and initially I was very impressed. Easy delivery and set up and everything that it promised was there - great picture quality (especially with my PS3), etc.

But on Wednesday, two and a half months after use, a flashing orange light appeared on the set before the picture went black. I found the manual and it informed me that this was a "backlight" issue and to turn off the TV, unplug the power cord, then plug it back it and turn on the TV - sadly, it didn't fix the problem.

Luckily the TV is under warranty for a year and I was able via Toshiba to set up a local TV repair company here in Miami to come pick it up. But come on folks, spending a grand on a TV that breaks down in under 90 days is just ridiculous. I'm a graduate student and I hardly even use the television but at night for some evening viewing/gaming.

I wouldn't suggest anyone buy this TV - believe me, this is my first review of ANYTHING on Amazon (for which I'm a big fan of) but I wouldn't want anyone else to get screwed over by Toshiba's defective products.

In the interim as my TV gets fixed, I'm back to using my Westinghouse 32' LCD that I purchased in 2007 that hasn't given me ANY problems since I took it out the box and set it up. So much for wanting to go bigger and better. :)

Good luck shoppers.
The picture

I also have a Sony Bravia 46". The picture quality of the Toshiba can't compare. It's disappointing, but tolerable. If you don't have another TV to compare it to, you'd never even realize that the quality of the picture was poor.
Toshiba REGZA 47ZV650U 47-Inch: Awesome is the word

Purchased this beauty from my local Costco store for 900 a month back, was easy to set-up and I am fully satisfied with the picture quality and its appearance. Had done lot of market research before making the purchase, and this lcd is the best buy for the buck. The only area of disappointment is the sound quality, which cracks at higher volumes. But this should not be a worry if you have a home theater or external speakers.

Tried out the USB to play movies (divx and avi format), and view pictures from a memory stick, and it works just fine.

Wish it had an Ethernet port, but brought a samsung blu-ray player with internet tv to compensates it. Connected it via HDMI port and the video experience is phenomenal. Also works great as an extended monitor for my laptop. Have not tried a gaming console yet.

Pros:
-Picture Quality
-Easy Set-up
-Light Weight
-Responsive Remote
-Glossy Screen

Cons:
-Sound
-No Ethernet port

Overall, very satisfied and would recommend it.
